Stronger, Sharper, Smarter - Why Serulean blades last longer

Why Serulean Blades Last Longer

Serulean Composite Metallic Glass is the solution to the biggest problem in shaving: steel. Steel razor blades start dulling after only a few shaves, and even less if they get dropped or develop rust. Shaving companies rely on that to sell you replacement blades, but Serulean thinks differently, instead using cutting-edge technology to provide the best possible and longest-lasting shaving experience.

The Problem with Steel

Wear, rust, and chipping are all made worse on steel by its crystal structure. On a microscopic scale, tiny crystals inside steel called carbides are dispersed through a steel matrix. That matrix between the carbides is where most of the corrosion, wear, and chipping take place, as it isn’t as hard or strong as the carbides around it. And even when brand new, the size of those carbides limits how thin the edge can be, meaning that the theoretical sharpness ceiling is frustratingly low.

Why Serulean CMG is better

What makes Serulean CMG so special is its irregular atomic structure. Instead of carbides aligned in a neat pattern like steel, CMG is made in such a way that the atoms never settle into a crystal structure at all. That provides a few benefits. Firstly, without carbides inside a matrix, the composite metallic glass can be sharpened to a much finer apex. But it’s not just sharper, it also provides an exceptionally hard and strong material that can remain sharp long after your steel razor has gone dull.

That irregular atomic structure doesn’t just resist wear, it also resists chips and cracks. Even small impacts can damage a steel edge, making it at best dull, and at worst, dangerous. But Serulan CMG is able to retain a nanoscopic edge apex even after collisions with shower tiles, quartz countertops, or other hygiene equipment in your dopp kit.

On its own, Serulean CMG is also far more resistant to corrosion than steel. The lack of a matrix means it’s harder for oxygen atoms to bind with the metals inside, preventing rust. This is amplified even more by the diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating the blade wears. In addition to providing another layer of protection for the material, it also has the same coefficient of friction as Teflon, providing you a much smoother and easier shaving experience and reducing buildup of hair, dead skin, and shaving cream.

What This Means for You

When you invest in a Serulean razor, you’re not buying into a proprietary ecosystem that feels more like a subscription than a product. You’re getting a top-of-the-line shaving tool. It will shave smoother and cleaner than even brand-new steel, and still be popping hairs long after other steel blades have made it to the landfill.
